GIZ in Eschborn, Germany, is looking for a full-time intern speaking fluent English and French to support the project “Improving climate security and resilience in a fragile context through the Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus – FREXUS”, which aims to improve security and climate resilience in fragile contexts by promoting the sustainable management of resources. The main tasks of the intern will be to support the implementation of the Nexus regional dialogues program in the Niger basin and the Frexus project on a series of functions.

Job Description

Main tasks

The main tasks of the intern will be to support the implementation of the Nexus Regional Dialogues program in the Niger Basin and the Frexus project on a series of functions, including

  • Support for the development of proposals on Nexus and FREXUS activities in the Niger Basin
  • Conceptual work on the WEF Nexus and sustainable resource management topics
  • Support of the team through independent research and drafting of project reports (French, English, German)
  • Keep an overview of the work produced under the NRD and Frexus projects and document the results obtained
  • Support team members in the project regions
  • Preparation of presentation materials and discussion papers
  • Support for international communication activities with project partners such as the Niger Basin Authority (ABN) and the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and their Member States
  • Support the team in the content and logistical preparation of (virtual) events and workshops
  • Support for knowledge management, contract management, and monitoring/evaluation of project achievements

Your profile

The Nexus team is looking for a very proactive and well-organized individual who is able to work both independently and as a team, as well as under pressure.

  • You must have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geography, economics, politics, social sciences, or any other subject related to the topic of the internship
  • You have acquired knowledge and practical experience in the field of sustainable resource management, adaptation to climate change, conflict, and security, or one of the central themes of the project (water, energy, and agriculture)
  • Preferably, you already have a first experience in the field of development cooperation (internships and/or volunteering) and/or in developing and emerging countries, ideally in one of the countries of the Niger Basin
  • Speak fluently English and French; German is desirable
  • Very good oral and written communication skills in the aforementioned languages, confidence in writing texts and in conceptual preparation of topics for different target groups (general public, political level, etc.) in English and French
  • Your strengths are initiative, teamwork, and good time management
  • You have very good organizational skills and are used to working independently and results-oriented

We pay a monthly allowance of € 1,634 (gross).
