The Water Harvesting Lab – UNIFI, Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI UNIFI) of the Università degli Studi di Firenze, Italy, is about to open a PhD position with title “Towards a sustainable management of Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus for Rural Communities of Mediterranean “.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student, who will develop a research project within the NEXUS-NESS project (https://prima-nexus-ness.org/). In particular, the focus of the research will be the analysis of the management of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus through GIS, hydrological modeling, and integrated indicators (Ecosystem Services) in 4 different agroecosystems of the #Mediterranean basin (Italy, Spain, Egypt, Tunisia).
The goal of the research is to develop strategies for the optimal management of the components of the WEFE Nexus. Specific knowledge on the WEFE Nexus concept is not needed, since it will be acquired during the PhD development, but good skills in programming, GIS analysis and hydrological modelling are a preferential requirement.
