Position for a researcher on Water-Energy-Food-Environment Nexus and GIS modelling to join the Future Energy research Program at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM)

Description
In the context of the H2020 funded project LEAP-RE – RE4AFAGRI (Long-Term Joint EU-AU Research and Innovation Partnership on Renewable Energy) and potentially other projects, the “Future Energy” research Program of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (project leader partner) is seeking a Researcher to work in the areas on Water-Energy-Food-Environment Nexus and GIS modelling. The candidate will join a team working with the project’s high-level international partners consortium (including top research centers and think-tanks in Europe and in Africa) to develop, exploit, and disseminate modelling tools that can inform policymakers on integrated Water-Energy-Food-Environment solutions at the local scale in rural sub-Saharan Africa. The candidate will have the opportunity to produce project reports and research articles to be published in top field journals.

Requirements
The ideal candidate is in possession (or in the stage of completing) a PhD degree in the fields of Environmental Science or Engineering, Energy, GIS science, Applied Economics or other quantitative subjects. Candidates with a Master’s degree and a solid background in working with data in the water, energy, or environmental areas are also encouraged to apply. The candidate should have an understanding of water-energy sectoral interdependencies. Candidates with experience working with GIS data analysis and with Python/R programming are strongly favoured. Further assets are experience in energy and hydrological modelling and an understanding of the energy access challenge in the African context. Proficiency in English is required, as the candidate will work on international project(s).

Opportunities
The project will allow the candidate to become part of a high-level European-African research consortium, participating to discussions and possibly travelling for project meetings and field visits; during the project the candidate will co-author publication with high-level international project partner; within the project’s aims and scope, the candidate will also have some room to carry out autonomous research.

Salary
Depending on experience, competitive salary.

Timing
Ideally beginning Spring 2021. One year contract, renewable; potential further prospects after the project ends.
