Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru has a Ph.D in Soil Fertility from University of Florida, USA, Master of Science in Crop Science from University of Nairobi, Kenya and a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from Moi University, Kenya. Prof. Njiru has worked at different levels as a researcher. He began his career as an Assistant Research Officer and rose through the ranks to the position of Senior Research Officer at Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), Kenya before joining academia as a Senior Lecturer at Kenyatta University, Kenya. In addition to teaching at Kenyatta University, he served at different levels in management such as Chairman of Department (Environmental Foundations), Dean of the School (School of Environmental Studies & Human Sciences) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance, Planning & Development). After leaving Kenyatta University, he joined Embu University College (EUC), a constituent college of the University of Nairobi as its founding principal. He is currently the Vice Chancellor of the University of Embu having steered it from its humble beginnings as a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi to its current status as a full-fledged University. Besides research and academia, he serves in various boards: Chairman of the Board of Directors, Cytonn Investments, former Chairman of Board of Directors of Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI), Kenya; Member of the Board of Trustees, Tree Biotechnology Program (TBPT), Kenya; Former Chairman, African Network (AfNet) of Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Institute of CIAT (TSBF-CIAT) among others. Prof. Njiru’s success in research and administration is due to his impeccable ability to successfully source for research funds (fund raising), strong analytical, organizational and managerial skills gained from work experience, studies and continuous refresher trainings.
