Dr Hodson Makurira holds PhD in Water Management & Hydrology from the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), an MSc in Water & Environmental Resources Management from UNESCO-IHE (The Netherlands) and a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe. He has vast experience in civil engineering particularly in the water sector spanning over 25 years.Prior to joining the University of Zimbabwe in 2003, Dr Makurira worked for the Ministry of Water Resources and Development and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Zimbabwe. He has taught water engineering courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has been Coordinator for the SADC regional masters’ degree programme in water engineering and management. In the process, he has supervised students in water engineering researches up to PhD level and has published extensively in international journals. Besides participating in several researches and consultancies in the southern Africa region, Dr Makurira has also participated in the development of the National Climate Change Response Strategy for Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe’s Fourth State of the Environment, Zimbabwe National Water Resources Masterplan and the Fourth Communication for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Currently, Dr Makurira is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering where he supervises activities in electrical, civil, renewable energy, mechanical engineering, mining, metallurgy and aeronautical engineering. He is also a Fellow of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) and is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe. He is also a Board Member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers and the WaterNet Trust.
