Hans Elem Onya is the Director of Health Promotion and the Head of Institutional HIV/AIDS Programme at the University of Limpopo. He is also the Head of University’s Global Health Programme. He is currently an Adviser to WHO-AFRO on Social Determinants of Health and an Independent Consultant for WHO-AFRO on Health Promotion.He has reviewed several manuscripts for Journals and currently is a member of the Editorial Committee of the International Journal of Public Health. He is a member of University of Limpopo Senate, a member of Faculty and School of Health Sciences Boards. Onya was one of the leaders in the development of modules on NCD prevention in Africa for IUHPE. He has been a member of a SATZ and PREPARE Research Consortium made up of four European and five African Universities working on HIV and AIDS prevention projects in eastern and southern Africa from 1997 to date. Onya is the Champion for University of Limpopo in the Pan Institutions Network on Global Health (PINGH). His current research and intervention interest continues to be on Public Health in sub-Saharan Africa.Hans Onya holds a West African School Certificate “O” Level from Nigeria, a Diploma in Public Health of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health (RSH), London; a Diploma in Integrated Rural Development from Buea, Cameroon; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social and Behavioural Sciences from Osmania University, Hydrabad, India; a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Education from Gandhigram Institute of Rural Health and Family Welfare Trust, India, a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of the Philippines, Manila, Philippines; and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
