Ogugua Charles Aworh, the George Coumantaros Distinguished Professor, Flour Mills Food Research Centre, Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan is Fellow and Presiding Officer-Elect (2020-2022) of the International Academy of Food Science and Technology (FIAFoST), the global focus of food science excellence. A Fellow and former Chairman of the Body of Fellows and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award (2014) of the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (FNIFST), he holds B.Sc. (Hons) in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (1973); MS and PhD in Food Science and Technology from Cornell University, USA (1976, 1978). Appointed Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan in 1978, he was promoted Professor in 1988 and was at various times visiting Royal Society/Nuffield Foundation, CIDA/NSERC and Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow/Professor at the Procter Department of Food Science, University of Leeds, UK; the Department of Food Science, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada; and the Department of Biotechnology/Technical Biocatalysis, Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany. Prof. Aworh’s areas of research include post-harvest technology, food processing and food biotechnology and he has over 100 scientific publications excluding technical reports and monographs. Head of the Department of Food Technology, University of Ibadan (1989-1991, 1993-1996, 2004-2007), Prof. Aworh was the pioneer Chairman (2008-2014) of the university’s Multidisciplinary Central Research Laboratory. He has supervised over 120 M.Sc. and 17 PhD theses. He is a mentor for African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) and the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST). He is currently Chairman, Technical Advisory Group and Member, Standing Committee on Research and Development of Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
