Prof. I. U. Abubakar is a professor of Irrigation Agronomy. Currently, he holds the position of Executive Director, Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Prior to holding his current position, he had been the Head of Agronomy Department and was also the Programme leader, Irrigation Research Programme. Through his leadership, the irrigation programme has worked in improving the water use efficiency of crops grown under irrigation in Nigeria. He had previously served as Deputy Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and coordinator of West African hub of Support for Agricultural Research and Development of Strategic Crops (SARD-SC) Wheat component. Prof. I. U. Abubakar holds B.Sc. Agriculture, M. Sc Agronomy and Ph. D. Agronomy. He has published over 70 articles in journals and edited proceedings of scientific conferences. He has successfully graduated over 30 Ph. D. and M.Sc. students.
