Dr. Francis W. Derby is Associate Professor of Surveying Engineering and Geographic Information Systems at Penn State University. He has extensive practical and international experience in surveying and Geographic Information Systems, through his work in England, South America, East Africa and in the Caribbean and the United States. He has also served as a consultant to the World Bank and the Commonwealth Secretariat of the United Kingdom. Dr. Derby’s research interests are in geodesy, Photogrammetric Mapping, Land tenure, and Land and Geographic Information Systems with focus on sustainable resource management for social and economic development in developing countries.
