Online course // A Data Light Approach to Monitoring Climate Resilience

Background and Course Description:

Environmental scientists and development practitioners have bemoaned the absence of a simple and easy-to-understand approach to “implementing” the Nexus. Inspired by the release of Boundary Science in 2021, a new short course has been developed that also reflects on the lessons emerging from executing a Belmont Forum project on cyber-enabled disaster resilience. A limited-edition of the course will be offered online via The Climate Panel later this year. The short course is titled “A Data Light Approach to Monitoring Climate Resilience” with guest lectures planned from the University of Manchester, University of Jordan, University of Geneva, and the University of Sao Paulo. A full edition of the course that can run for up to 12 weeks is being contemplated depending on feedback from the initial offering of the limited edition of the course.

The short course will train modelers and practitioners with an interest in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on a simple 2-step approach to building integrative models using the Nexus framework. The short course will generate content for a biennial showcase of experiential learning that will be developed with help from an international panel of experts and by employing data sets and models from a specific site in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Registration:

You can register on the website of The Climate Panel.

Partners who are willing to collaborate on building similar showcases will be offered free access to the short course to enable them to support the training of officers, scientists, and development practitioners in their regions. For those registering for the short course before August 30, 2021, discounts of up to 85% are currently being offered.
