With funding from the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR), USEA supports the Female Leaders in Energy (FLIE) initiative through the Indo-Pacific Energy Market Investment and Modernization (EMIM) partnership. The FLIE partnership aims to advance the professional development of early- to mid-career level women working in energy sectors across Southeast Asia.
Through a 2-year mentorship program, conferences, and technical workshops FLIE will:
- Empower, encourage, and guide female participants in setting targeted professional goals to advance their energy careers;
- Build confidence and leadership skills in the next generation of female energy leaders in Southeast Asia;
- Strengthen female participants’ professional network;
- Improve female participants’ industry and job function knowledge and skills; and
- Provide female participants with opportunities for career development, public speaking, and project management.
FLIE Mentee eligibility requirements:
FLIE Mentee applicants must be citizens and residents of the following emerging markets: Indonesia, Laos, Fiji, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in the energy industry.
- A track record of leadership and achievement in a professional career or otherwise.
- Professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Be willing to commit to the duration of the program from September 2021- September 2023.
FLIE Mentor eligibility requirements:
FLIE Mentor eligibility requirements applicants must be residents of the United States.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- At least 10 years of professional experience in the energy industry.
- A track record of leadership and achievement in a professional career or otherwise.
- A willingness to devote 1-3 hours monthly, with an additional 5-10 hours quarterly to interact with mentees.
- Be able and willing to speak at initiative events:
- Speak on a panel at the opening conference in June 2021.
- Speak on at least one panel on a technical topic.
- Host a meeting at the organization during an executive exchange in Summer- Fall 2023.
- Host a mentee in a 2-week job shadow in Summer- Fall 2023.
Responsibilities:
- A mentorship program with quarterly virtual meetings.
- A specially designed learning and development program to advance the professional development of early- to mid-career level women working in energy sectors across Southeast Asia.
- Six technical workshops.
- Held in November 2021, March 2022, July 2022, October 2022, January 2023 and April 2023.
- Mentees are expected to complete a Capstone Project, which could include an original research paper, developing a training program, or other projects.
- Network building opportunities.
An additional opportunity for a fully funded week-long study tour to the United States OR a two-week job shadow opportunity in July – September 2023 are available for a small select group of mentees (if COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted).
Timeline:
May 1 – July 15, 2021
FLIE Mentee and Mentor applications open.
June 2021
Launch event. A virtual half-day conference.
July 15 – August 13, 2021
Applications reviewed and mentees and mentors are selected. Successful applicants will be notified by August 13, 2021.
September 2021 – September 2023
Successful applicants take part in the two (2) year program.
