Members from WEF Nexus in Africa consortium participated in a recent Water Innovations Lab Global (WIL Global 2020), a program designed and delivered by Canadian non-profit, Waterlution. Waterlution provides young adults, across 5 continents, an exceptional training and leadership skill-building opportunity to collaborate around two overarching themes, Coastal Community Resilience and Water Energy Food Nexus. Sixteen WILs have been completed to date, with over 1500 youth and young leaders trained across 5 continents. WILs have taken place in Canada, India, Portugal, Scotland, the Netherlands, Mexico, Lebanon, Australia and Brazil, Due to COVOD-19 WIL Global 2020 expanded to a virtual 6 month leadership program this year. It allowed for greater inclusion of global participants. This year it had 93 participants, from 21 countries, including a number from Africa. WEF Nexus members discussed their projects and provided their expertise and facilitated discussions amongst the participants to deepen their experience with the WWF nexus concept. Students in the course will consider WEF nexus approaches in their chosen scenario plans and innovation projects. In November, the teams will present their final projects to the entire WIL Global 2020 community, which will tie in all the topics that they learned throughout the program. In the final sessions, all teams will be encouraged to submit the final projects for SEED Grants. Next year Waterlution k=hiles to joining with Waternet to host a WinterSchool/WIL Southern Africa.
