SUMMARY:Joint Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development 2022
DESCRIPTION:An ICTP Virtual Meeting \nThe Joint Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development 2022 (#SDSummerSchool) will be held from 30th May to 16th June. Hosted by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)\, this is a fantastic opportunity to get free training\, access to discussion forums\, and coaching skills in models and tools for all of your energy planning needs. \nThere are six tracks listed below\, each focusing on different tools. Note that you must complete the Open University course of your one desired track and obtain a certificate as part of your application to the Summer School (see this link to the courses and video instructions on how to enrol on a OU course). The tracks are developed with UNDESA\, IAEA\, UNDP\, IRENA\, The World Bank Group\, GIZ\, the OpTIMUS community of practice\, several universities\, and the Climate Compatible Growth (#CCG) program. \nThe Summer School is split into two parts:\n(1) you will be trained to build on the skills you obtained from the Open University course;\n(2) you will use your new skills to conduct analyses on country-specific case studies\, with assistance being provided from trainers. \nPlease see programme overview at the bottom of this page. \nBesides receiving the certificate of completion from the Open University Course\, you will also receive an ICTP certificate on attendance and successful completion of the Summer School (obtained after attending the Summer School). \nTracks: \n\nOnSSET/The Global Electrification Platform\nEnergy and Flexibility Modelling: OSeMOSYS & FlexTool\nFinancial Analysis of Power Sector Projects using the FinPlan Model\nEnergy demand assessment and scenarios: MAED and EBS tools\nIntroduction to CLEWs\nAgent-based energy systems modelling: MUSE\n\nFor detailed description of the different tracks\, click here. \nPrerequisites: The prerequisites to be admitted to the Summer School are provided at the bottom of this page. \nComputer & connection requirements: Note that participants will require a computer with stable internet access to participate in the training. It is recommended that participants have at least 8 GB of RAM and a relatively new computer. Nonetheless\, specific tracks have additional computer requirements: \n\n– Energy and Flexibility Modelling: OSeMOSYS & FlexTool: Windows 10 computer with Access Database OR Mac OS\, 8GB RAM\, MS Office.\n– Introduction to CLEWs: Windows 10 computer\, 8GB RAM. \n\nTroubleshooting Support: Support in completing the OU tracks will be provided during the application period on ZOOM on 23 and 30 of March and on 6 and 13 of April 2022 until the application period closes. If this time does not suit you\, please contact General Inquiries and we may be able to allocate a different time to assist you. \nZoom links to troubleshooting sessions by track are published here: \n\n\n\n\n\nLink to Track\n\n\n\nTime\n\n\n\n\nOnSSET/The Global Electrification Platform\nEnergy and Flexibility Modelling: OSeMOSYS & FlexTool\nFinancial Analysis of Power Sector Projects using the FinPlan Model\nEnergy demand assessment and scenarios: MAED and EBS tools\nIntroduction to CLEWs\nAgent-based energy systems modelling: MUSE\n\n\n13.00 CET/Vienna time13.00 CET/Vienna time \n13.30 CET/Vienna time \n13.30 CET/Vienna time \n13.00 CET/Vienna time \n13.00 CET/Vienna time\n\n\n\nRegistration: There is no registration fee. SUMMARY:Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2022
DESCRIPTION:June 20-24\, 2022\, Online and onsite in Pretoria\, South Africa \n\n The Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress is a series of gatherings that unite global research leaders\, experts\, industries and innovators to inspire action and promote a sustainability transformation. Hosted by the Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria\, SRI2022 will build on the success of the first SRI Congress which took place in June 2021 and featured 700 speakers and 2\,000 participants from 100 countries. \n\n\n\nAn important objective of SRI2022 is to amplify the voice of sustainability science and innovation in the Global South\, specifically for the African continent\, through raising awareness and propelling discussions about sustainable priorities for Africa. \n\n\n\nSession Proposals: \n\n\n\nSubmit your session proposal by February 18\, 2022. \n\n\n\nThis call for session proposals is open to groups composed of anyone working in sustainability science and practice\, which includes the research sector\, government\, business\, philanthropy\, art and civil society. The second edition of the SRI Congress will be held in Pretoria\, South Africa\, June 20-24\, 2022\, and online. \n\n\n\nFor this call\, proposal are accepted on the four Congress themes: \n\n\n\n\nNexus issues: Novel perspectives looking at critical intersections in multiple areas including but not restricted to sustainable food systems and human wellbeing; resilience\, adaptation and addressing risk; evidence-based and actionable contributions to the SDGs and beyond; narratives of progress\, wealth and well-being; water\, food\, energy\, society; resources use efficiency.\nDifferent ways of knowing: Recognizing that knowledge is versatile\, SRI2022 explores the various ways of understanding\, conceptualizing\, and learning about the world. An inclusive approach to knowledge will dramatically broaden the spectrum of solutions available for action-forward sustainability work.\nNew horizons: Sustainability is about our relationship with the future\, and SRI2022 seeks to explore emerging issues and trends that shape our world tomorrow. In a time of rapid change\, looking ahead is more important than ever. What are the challenges and solutions that might surprise us? How can we get ahead of the curve and build our preparedness and resilience? How to predict the unpredictable? Who are the new players and what are the unlikely coalitions? Under this theme\, we are particularly open for new if not unexpected ideas.\nAfrican science and innovation (Cross cutting theme): One of the key objectives of SRI2022 is to showcase the richness of African science and innovation in sustainability. From tested local solutions to advanced academic research\, the African continent has a wealth of knowledge and innovation to offer to the wider world. In addition\, SRI2022 is hoping to strengthen the inter-African dialogue and networks by offering an inclusive platform for increased visibility and collaboration.\n\n\n\n\nSubmission deadline is February 18\, 2022\, at 23:59 SAST (UTC +2). Oceania satellite deadline is February 28\, 2022\, at 23:59 AEST (UTC +1). \n\n\n\nClick here to submit a proposal. \n\n\n\nClick here to register for the program. Stay tuned for more information!

The webinar will address the role\nof Nexus WEFE as a tool to cope with climate change (adaptation and mitigation). Implementation of Nexus WEFE will ovoid maladaptation generally performed at the sectoral and project-based activities without\nadequate consideration or coordination of cross-sectoral interactions among key climate-sensitive sectors. \nThe presentations and discussion will be based on concrete examples as well hand-on experiences implementing Nexus in African countries. The webinar will also be an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges and opportunities to operationalize the WEF Nexus. Registration is required. \nClick here to register. \nWebinar Agenda: \n \nDetail description is available here.
