SUMMARY:Call for Applications // NEX-LABS Summer School To Grow Innovations In The Water Energy Food NEXUS
DESCRIPTION:NEX-LABS Summer School: \n\n\n\n\n\nCalling innovators and researchers from Lebanon and the Mediterranean to apply to Berytech’s regional Entrepreneurship Summer School in the Water Food Energy NEXUS Sector under the NEX-LABS project and develop novel startups. \n\n\n\nBerytech is organizing a 5-day intensive summer school allowing entrepreneurs and startups to turn their innovations in the Water Food Energy (WEF) NEXUS sector into potential startups and explore commercialization opportunities. \nThe summer school will provide new business perspectives to NEXUS innovators\, create potential collaboration across borders in the Mediterranean and help the entrepreneurs develop their entrepreneurial mindset and relevant skills to successfully launch and grow their business. \nThe summer school will feature 13 to 15 teams from 7 countries: Spain\, Italy\, Egypt\, Tunisia\, Jordan\, Cyprus and Lebanon. Teams will be selected to attend the summer school and develop their innovation management\, commercialization strategy of NEXUS technologies\, business model\, IPR and investment pitch deck. \nThe Entrepreneurship Summer School will take place towards end of June\, beginning July 2022. \nIt will be planned over 5 days with fully covered accommodation in an adapted working setting. Travel expenses to Lebanon will be covered by Berytech. \n\n\nWho Can Apply? \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEntrepreneurs\, researchers\, industrialists\, innovators and start-ups working on early-stage projects\, innovative solutions and approaches and/or working on technology development looking for commercializing their idea to address the needs and opportunities in WEF-NEXUS sector\nUniversity students and alumni from targeted faculties working on business or research projects in the WEF-NEXUS sector in the Mediterranean region\n\n\n\nEligibility Criteria \n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants should reside in Spain\, Tunisia\, Jordan\, Lebanon\, Italy\, Egypt and Cyprus.\nParticipants should have an idea\, innovation solution or applied research project addressing WEF-NEXUS opportunities.\nParticipants should be motivated to learn and apply skills learned in future NEX-LABS activities and contribute in shaping the landscape of WEF-NEXUS in the MPCs.\nProject should address an important economic\, environmental or social need in the WEF-NEXUS context (such as resource efficiency\, gender empowerment\, resource allocation\, community inclusion\, yield increase);\nProject idea should demonstrate economic viability and combine innovation\, sustainability and potential for scalability in the WEF- NEXUS\nProject should have at least a proof of concept / prototype (a realization of a certain method or idea in order to demonstrate that the concept or theory has practical potential).\n\nRead what will you learn from the summer school here. \nApplications are now open. SUMMARY:First International Water Summit and the Establishment of the Zuckerberg Water Prize
DESCRIPTION:The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR) is pleased to announce the first International Water Summit and establishment of the Zuckerberg Water Prize during May 22–23\, 2022\, at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU)\, Sde Boqer Campus\, Israel. \nThis biannual Water Summit will assemble leading scholars from around the world in the broad field of water science and technology\, and cover four main topics related to water security in a changing world – desalination\, water treatment\, hydrology\, and aquatic microbiology. The summit will address applied and fundamental questions related to the nexus of water\, humanity\, and the environment. Discussions will be held on cutting-edge research\, related challenges\, and future directions as well as implications for policy makers. The summit will also include roundtable discussions with active participation from the audience. Researchers that would like to share their studies can submit an abstract for an exclusive poster session. \nThe Zuckerberg Water Prize (sum of USD 60\,000) will be awarded for the first time during the Water Summit to acknowledge outstanding achievements and global impact of an individual or organization in the broader field of water. The biannual award is endorsed by ZIWR\, a leading global institute conducting cutting-edge multidisciplinary research and advanced education in water sciences to improve human well-being and in drylands through technologies and policies for the sustainable use of water resources. ZIWR is accepting nominations for this award for the inaugural round of 2022\, with a deadline of March 1\, 2022. Among the members on the Prize Committee are Prof. Noam Weisbrod (Director\, The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research [BIDR]\, BGU\, Israel)\, Prof. Menachem Elimelech (Yale University\, USA)\, Prof. Janet Hering (Director\, Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology [Eawag]\, Switzerland)\, Prof. Amit Gross (Director\, ZIWR\, BIDR\, BGU\, Israel)\, and Dr. Karen G.
